APT/E Auto Air Permeability Tester – Latest 2026
The APT/E is a fully automatic air permeability tester that determines the air permeability of fabric with no manual intervention. Its wide measuring range — from 0.2 to 12,000 mm/s — covers all kinds of knitted, woven, non-woven, and coated fabrics as well as paper, film, and leather.
Testing begins automatically when the specimen is clamped over the test head opening by pressing down the clamping arm. The pre-selected test pressure is maintained throughout and the air permeability result is displayed immediately after the test completes.
The 2026 upgrade brings a completely redesigned instrument with an automatic positioning orifice plate featuring 8 aperture sizes, a colour touch screen, built-in thermal and USB printing, low-noise fan, and a continuous test mode — all delivering ±2% accuracy comparable to top Swiss brands.

Fully Automatic with 8-Aperture Orifice Plate
The APT/E automatically positions the correct aperture from 8 available sizes on the orifice plate based on the sample's permeability — eliminating operator judgement and human error. Testing begins the moment the clamping arm is pressed, and the pre-selected pressure is maintained automatically throughout the test.
Touch Screen with Thermal & USB Printing
A colour touch screen provides an intuitive, easy-to-use interface with a built-in thermal printer and USB port for immediate report output. A continuous test mode allows multiple specimens to be tested in sequence, and test units can be switched freely between mm/s, L/m²/s, cfm, and six other formats to match any reporting requirement.

The high-accuracy sensor delivers results within ±2% of readings from leading Swiss brand instruments — independently verified. With compliance to 9 international standards including ISO 9237, ASTM D737, BS 5636, DIN 53887, and JIS L1096-A, the APT/E is suitable for global export testing and laboratory accreditation programmes.
The APT/E is designed for a wide range of porous materials. Its measuring range of 0.2 to 12,000 mm/s covers all types of knitted, woven, non-woven, and coated fabrics as well as paper, film, and leather. The automatic aperture selection ensures the correct orifice size is always used regardless of the material's permeability — from dense coated fabrics to highly open technical textiles.
The APT/E orifice plate contains 8 different aperture sizes. The instrument automatically positions the applicable aperture based on the fabric's permeability performance — eliminating the manual aperture selection step required by older instruments. This automation removes human error and makes the test faster and more repeatable between operators and shifts.
The standard test head area is 20 cm², which satisfies the requirements of most international test methods. Optional test head sizes of 5 cm², 25 cm², 38 cm², 50 cm², and 100 cm² are available to comply with specific standards that specify a different test area — such as TAPPI T-251 (100 cm²) or WSP 70.1 for nonwoven fabrics.
The APT/E supports 8 selectable measurement units: mm/s, L/m²/s, cm³/cm²/s, dm/min, L/dm²/min, m/min, m/h, and cfm. Units can be switched freely during testing, allowing the same instrument to satisfy test specifications written in different unit systems — from ISO and EN standards using mm/s to ASTM and TAPPI methods using cfm — without recalculation.
The APT/E achieves a measurement accuracy of ≤ ±2%. Its high-accuracy sensor has been independently compared against a leading Swiss brand instrument and the results were found to be almost identical, with the error range within ±2%. This cross-validation gives confidence that the APT/E produces results consistent with the highest-grade laboratory instruments available internationally.
The APT/E complies with 9 international test standards: ISO 9237, ASTM D737, 24218.15, BS 5636, DIN 53887, AFNOR G07-111, JIS L1096-A, TAPPI T-251, and WSP 70.1. This broad standard coverage makes it suitable for testing textiles, nonwovens, paper, and technical fabrics destined for global markets including Europe, USA, Japan, and India.

The APT/E requires AC 220V ±10V at 50 Hz. It measures 850 × 520 × 1050 mm and weighs 125 kg, making it a floor-standing instrument that requires a stable flat surface. The low-noise fan design means it can be installed in standard open laboratory environments without special acoustic enclosures or dedicated rooms.
