HFT Horizontal Flammability Tester – Latest
The HFT Horizontal Flammability Tester is designed to determine the comparative burn rates and burn resistance of textiles, particularly those intended for automotive interior use. It is safe and easy to operate, making it ideal for quality control and compliance testing in automotive supply chains.
The apparatus comprises a draft-free stainless steel cabinet fitted with a clear observation window, a sample holder, and a door-mounted burner. The precise geometric configuration — including a 9.5 mm fire nozzle, 38 mm fire height, and 19 mm nozzle-to-sample distance — ensures consistent and reproducible test conditions across all runs.
It complies with nine major international automotive flammability standards including ISO 3795, FMVSS 302, ASTM D5132, IS 15061 Part A, and the PSA-Renault standard D45 1333 — making it a versatile solution for global automotive OEM and supplier testing requirements.

Automotive Interior Compliance
Compliant with 10 major international automotive flammability standards including ISO 3795, FMVSS 302, ASTM D5132, DIN 75200, SAE J369, JIS D1201, GB 8410, and PSA-Renault D45 1333 — covering OEM and supplier requirements across global markets.
Draft-Free SS Cabinet & Door-Mounted Burner
The stainless steel cabinet provides a fully draft-free test environment with a clear observation window for specimen monitoring. The door-mounted burner ensures consistent positioning and easy access, making operation safe and straightforward for laboratory technicians.
Precise Geometry for Reproducible Results
Engineered to exacting dimensions: 9.5 mm nozzle diameter, 38 mm ± 2 fire height, 19 mm nozzle-to-sample distance, and clearly defined start (38 mm) and end (292 mm) marked lines from the igniting point — ensuring consistent and traceable test results every time.
The HFT Horizontal Flammability Tester is used to determine the comparative burn rates and burn resistance of textiles, particularly those used in automotive interiors. It measures how quickly a specimen burns horizontally after flame application, which is a critical parameter for automotive safety compliance and material certification.
The HFT complies with IS 15061 Part A, ISO 3795, FMVSS 302, DIN 75200, SAE J369, ASTM D5132, JIS D1201, BSAU 1690, GB 8410, and PSA-Renault standard D45 1333 — covering Indian, European, American, Japanese, Chinese, and OEM-specific automotive flammability requirements.
The HFT uses a door-mounted burner with a 9.5 mm fire nozzle diameter and a flame height of 38 mm ± 2 mm. The nozzle-to-sample distance is precisely set at 19 mm. These dimensions are specified by ISO 3795, FMVSS 302, and related standards to ensure consistent flame application geometry across all tests.
The HFT sample clamp has overall dimensions of 360 × 100 mm with an interior clamping dimension of 330 × 50 mm. The specimen is supported on metal wires spaced at 25 mm pitch. The test zone is marked between 38 mm (start) and 292 mm (end) from the igniting point, giving a 254 mm measurement length as required by standard.
The HFT features a draft-free stainless steel cabinet with a clear observation window, allowing the operator to monitor the specimen throughout the test without opening the chamber. The stainless steel construction ensures long-term durability and resistance to heat and combustion by-products during repeated testing.
The HFT is primarily used by automotive OEMs, Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers, and textile manufacturers producing seat covers, headliners, carpets, door panels, and other interior trim materials. It is also used by testing laboratories and certification bodies performing automotive interior flammability approvals.
FMVSS 302 is the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for automotive interior flammability, while ISO 3795 is the equivalent international standard widely adopted in Europe and Asia. Both test methods are technically similar and the HFT is designed to comply with both simultaneously, eliminating the need for separate apparatus for different markets.
The HFT operates on 220/110 V, 50/60 Hz at 2 A and measures 460 × 200 × 400 mm (L × W × H) with a weight of 35 Kg. Its compact and lightweight design makes it suitable for benchtop use in most standard testing laboratories without requiring dedicated floor space.
