HST/S Hot Shrinkage Force Tester – Latest
The HST/S Hot Shrinkage Force Tester precisely measures both Shrinkage % and Shrinkage Force (cN) on industrial yarn. The system is a fully enclosed unit that maintains a controlled, draft-free atmosphere as the test progresses, ensuring consistent and repeatable results.
Dual non-contact heaters are programmable up to 350°C following PID logic for independent, constant temperature control. The standard load cell capacity is 3000 gms, with one or two load cells available depending on application requirements. Optional high temperature heaters up to 450°C are also available.
With a world-leading shrinkage measuring range of 0% to 500%, touch screen control, friction-free pulley measurement, and USB-based test report and graph printing, the HST/S is the most complete hot shrinkage testing solution available for yarn manufacturers.

Key Highlights
World's Largest Shrinkage Measuring Range
Measures shrinkage from 0% to 500% — the world's largest measuring range — with ± 0.1% accuracy via a friction-free pulley. Configurable shrinkage force measurement from 1 to 3000 cN with < 0.2% accuracy makes it versatile for elastomeric yarns through high-tenacity tire cords.
Dual Non-Contact Heaters with PID Control
Two non-contact heaters programmable from ambient to 350°C (optional 450°C) operate under PID logic for independent, constant temperature control with ± 1°C uniformity across at least 90% of the heater length — ensuring a stable and repeatable thermal test environment.
Touch Screen & USB Report Printing
The easy-to-use touch screen interface with intuitive software allows operators to program test parameters and monitor results in real time. A built-in USB port enables direct printing of test reports and graphs, eliminating manual data transcription and streamlining QC workflows.
The HST/S measures two key parameters on industrial yarn: Shrinkage % (dimensional change under heat) and Shrinkage Force (cN) — the restoring force generated as the yarn attempts to shrink. Both measurements are made simultaneously in a controlled, enclosed environment, making it ideal for yarn quality control in industrial textile manufacturing.
The standard HST/S operates from room temperature (RT) up to 350°C using dual non-contact heaters under PID control. Temperature uniformity is maintained at ± 1°C across at least 90% of the heater length. An optional customized high-temperature heater configuration extends the range up to 450°C for specialized applications.
The HST/S is suitable for a wide range of industrial yarns — from soft elastomeric yarns to high-tenacity tire cords. Light duty and heavy duty clamp designs are available to provide non-slip grip for different yarn types. The force range of 1–3000 cN is fully customizable to match the yarn's application and pretension requirements.
The HST/S measures shrinkage from 0% to 500% — claimed to be the world's largest measuring range for this type of instrument — with ± 0.1% accuracy and 0.1% resolution via a friction-free pulley system. The shrinkage range is fully customizable to suit specific yarn and testing program requirements.
Yes, the shrinkage force (load cell) attachment is an optional feature on the HST/S — please confirm at the time of ordering. Standard configurations include one load cell (optional two) with a 3000 gms capacity. The force range is customer-configurable in cN depending on the yarn type and test requirement, with accuracy < 0.2% and resolution of 1.0 cN.
The HST/S complies with ASTM D4974 (thermal shrinkage of yarn), ASTM D5591 (thermal shrinkage force of yarn), and EN 13844 (the European standard for determination of shrinkage force and shrinkage percentage of yarn). These standards are widely specified by industrial yarn manufacturers and quality control laboratories.
The HST/S is used by industrial yarn manufacturers, tyre cord producers, technical textile companies, and research laboratories. It is particularly important for polyester, nylon, aramid, and other thermoplastic yarn producers where shrinkage performance under heat is a critical quality parameter for downstream processing and end-use applications.
The HST/S operates on 220–230V AC, 50 Hz at 600 W and measures 500 × 480 × 320 mm (L × W × H) with a weight of 45 Kg. Its compact benchtop design makes it suitable for standard laboratory environments without requiring special floor space or high-power electrical infrastructure.
