AWT/UV Accelerated Weathering Tester – Latest Standard Model
The AWT/UV reproduces sunlight, rain, and dew by combining fluorescent UV lamps with condensing humidity to simulate the weathering effect of outdoor exposure. Specimens are aged under alternating cycles of UV light and moisture at controlled elevated temperatures — compressing years of outdoor exposure into days or weeks of laboratory testing.
The water spray system can simulate end-use rain and dew conditions or create heat-shock effects by rapidly cooling samples following high-temperature UV cycles. The spray can be programmed to run for a set time and then shut down automatically — delivering precise mechanical and thermal stress without operator intervention.
Built with corrosion-proof SUS 304 stainless steel, a TCP/IP Ethernet interface, touch screen control, and automatic Excel report generation, the AWT/UV is a compact, user-friendly, and fully automated weathering solution for materials, coatings, plastics, and textiles.

Key Highlights
USA UVA/UVB Lamps with Closed-Loop Irradiance Control
Fitted with original UVA (340 nm) or UVB (313 nm) fluorescent lamps from the USA for internationally comparable results. A closed-loop irradiance control system continuously monitors and adjusts lamp output (0.2–1.55 W/m²) to maintain precision and stability throughout every test cycle — and can be calibrated at any time.
12-Nozzle Spray & Condensation for Full Weathering Simulation
Twelve spray nozzles (six front, six back) uniformly cover the specimen area to simulate rain and create heat-shock conditions by rapidly cooling samples after UV exposure. Combined with 100% condensation humidity during the condensation cycle, the AWT/UV faithfully recreates the full range of outdoor degradation mechanisms in a single chamber.
TCP/IP Remote Control & Auto Excel Reporting via USB
The TCP/IP Ethernet interface enables complete remote monitoring and control from any computer on the network — ideal for multi-user labs and production QC environments. All test data is automatically converted to Excel format, stored in real time, and exportable via U-disk, enabling fully unattended operation with no manual data transcription.
The AWT/UV simulates the three primary outdoor weathering mechanisms: UV radiation (via fluorescent UV lamps), moisture (via spray and condensation cycles), and elevated temperature. By cycling specimens through alternating UV light and condensation phases at controlled temperatures, it reproduces years of outdoor exposure in days or weeks of laboratory testing.
UVA-340 lamps (340 nm peak) best simulate the short-wave UV portion of natural sunlight and are specified by most ISO, ASTM, and SAE standards for general outdoor weathering. UVB-313 lamps (313 nm peak) produce shorter-wavelength, more energetic UV radiation for accelerated testing where high UV intensity is required in the shortest time. The choice depends on the applicable test standard and the material being tested — please consult Apple Electroniks if you are unsure which lamp type to select.
The AWT/UV accommodates 24 standard specimens of 75 × 150 mm each on aluminium specimen holders. All 24 specimens are exposed simultaneously to the same UV irradiance, temperature, and moisture conditions, ensuring statistically valid comparisons between different materials or formulations within a single test run.
Yes. The AWT/UV is designed for fully unattended operation. Test programs — including UV cycle duration, irradiance setpoint, condensation time, and spray intervals — are set via the touch screen and the instrument runs automatically. Built-in alarm and protection circuits (over-temperature, water-breaking, overload) ensure safe operation without a technician present, and all data is logged automatically for review after the test.
The AWT/UV complies with ISO 11507, ISO 4892-1, ISO 4892-3, ASTM D4587, ASTM D5208, ASTM D4329, ASTM G151, ASTM G53, ASTM G154, BS 2782 Part 5, SAE J2020, and JIS D0205. This broad coverage makes it suitable for testing coatings, plastics, automotive parts, textiles, adhesives, and packaging materials for markets worldwide.
Yes. The AWT/UV is equipped with a TCP/IP Ethernet interface that allows the user to control the machine, monitor running parameters, and review test data remotely from any computer connected to the same network. This makes it well suited for shared laboratory environments where multiple operators need access to the instrument status without being physically present at the machine.
The AWT/UV is widely used in the automotive industry (interior and exterior plastics, coatings, paints), construction and building materials (sealants, paints, roofing membranes), textile and apparel (fade and degradation testing), packaging and polymer manufacturing, adhesives and tapes, and electronics enclosures. Any product that is exposed to outdoor conditions during its service life benefits from UV weathering qualification testing.
The AWT/UV requires 230V ±10% single-phase 50/60Hz supply. It weighs 238 kg and measures 1500 × 700 × 1480 mm (L × W × H). A water supply connection and drainage are needed for the spray and condensation system. It is mounted on castors for easy repositioning. An Ethernet connection is required to use the TCP/IP remote-control feature.
